The Antiquity Exhibit, SL 10B

Master Builder Duke Crotian and his design team of Duchess TwelfthNight, Duchess Tiamat, Princes Pamus and Prince Jacon were charged with making an Antiquity booth at the Second Life 10th Birthday expo that  reflected all of Antiquity's communities.

The result was a virtual embassy where visitors from all over SL could walk in and feel as though they had entered a small sovereign corner of Antiquity.

Duke Crotian used all  of the building  skills that  he had acquired over the last few years  to build the exhibit  in only 10 days. The facade is from  the Royal Crescent in Regency, Somerset.  Duchess TwelfthNight placed  bluebells, Indian paintbrush and yellow roses to represent the Texas sim.  The .5 LI Junipers (2 linked = 1 prim) are from Baroness  Cali's Botanica, and the benches are from Mount St. Bruno.

The decor committee  went out of their way to showcase  low prim  products made by Antiquity Artisans,   The marvelous 1 Prim sconces chandeliers, Louis XVI chairs, mirror, and curvy commode are from Gaianed's Antiques, Mount Saint  Bruno .  The comfy benches are from Sere Timeless's furniture store in Regency Somerset. China vase and flowers form Los Texanos Beaux Arts, Bexar
The requisite group joiners, landmark givers and pictures decorate the walls of the grand entrance hall in style. Visitors can pick up some gifts of period clothing,
Furniture from Gaianed 's Antiques, 1 prim cake from Botanica,
1 prim Samovar tray from Los Texanos Beaux Arts.
Greeters Baroness Cara Cali and Prince Jacon Cortes.

and a commemorative broach from Los Texanos Beaux Art.  They can  have cake and coffee while they chat with a greeter or go drop into the pirate lair for a wee dram of something stronger.

Inish Karu tend bar for Cybob Balazic and  Tomis MacMoragh
enjoy a bit of roleplay. Somerset Bar courtesy of Botanica.
The Pirate's lair may look disreputable but as this is an embassy to the rest of SL.  All visitors may rest assured they can enjoy a drink or two without fear of either their purse or throat being cut.

There is a music room on the second floor where guest may play a period instrument or enjoy 18th century dances.

Prince Jacon and Duchess TwelfthNight test the clavichord and harp provided by the Music Box, Bexar.

There is a play ground for children just outside the music room door.

The view form the back stairs is magnificent.

Climb the stairs and you will discover the wonders of the Merdome. Where if you are very, very lucky you will find mermaids at play and  can join in their dance.

Mer dancers Pearce Kingsley and Tiamat Windstorm.

300 visitors have come through the doors in the in the first two days of the expo.
HRH  Cathryn Beaumont  awaits the first visitors
on opening day.

Most all of them have been personally greeted by a docent who offers refreshment, points out the gifts and a answers questions. (If you wish to volunteer Duchess Tiamat is the keeper of the volunteer roster.)

Antiquity takes great pride in being a historical roleplay estate of mixed societies: nobles, merchants, pirates, children, and mers (and the occasional foxy furry or two). One is hard pressed to imagine how a 260 prim, 32x32M  expo booth could better represents Antiquity to the rest of Second Life or be more magnificent. It is an architectural tour d'force.
Duke Crotian and Duchess TwelfthNight

The citizens of Antiquity owe a large debt of gratitude to Duke Crotian and his team. And also to all the volunteers that donated there time and talents to make the Antiquity exhibit fun and interesting for visitors to Second Life's 10th Birthday party over the next fortnight.

The exhibit will run from June 16th to June 29th, 2013.

Upcoming Antiquity events are:
Mer Gathering
Ballroom Dance
Duels
Fashion Show

Second Life's 10th Birthday SL10B
Looking Forward and Looking Back
June 16th to June 29th, , 2013

It is Second Life's 10th Birthday and the second year that residents of Second Life have come together to put on a grand exposition.
The Mushroom Stage with  view of Expo

.
Scale of Mushroom Stage build .
Those little ants on the mushroom are the press core.
Last year when Linden Labs backed away from the SL birthday expo, concerned citizens took on the organization job and also self funded the 20 sims needed for the Expo on their own.

This year is also resident run. An anonymous donor has funded all but the two Linden Lab sims.

Griefer trapped in  the Linden Cornfield.
Makes one long for the bad old days, eh?

The Linden Cornfield is where avis spent a time out  for minor infractions in the bad old days.  The Duchess was thrilled to have the Antiquity Exhibit's pirate cave overlook open water. Then the Lindens slapped down their cornfield right next to it two days before the grand opening. Leaving the poor Duchess  to wonder whatever had she done to deserve this fate.

Linden Teddy Bears on Parade
There was a time when every Linden had to create their very own bear, and the Lindens spent more time in world.  If you ran into one you could ask them for their bear, and some people collected Linden Bears. Now the bears are on exhibit and you can add or begin to your collection on Bear Island.

The Resident Expo is a mix of general builds and public spaces. Last year I was impressed by the builds. This year is a jaw dropper!.
Press core gathers in the shadow of the Reactor Stage

The public spaces are stages, auditoriums and for lack of a better word – parks; amazing sims created by some of second life most skilled and visionary builders.
View form the Antiquity Exhibit Back Porch.

This year we have lush organic public spaces,  The cake stage is hidden in a tree and positively oozes frosting like sap.  (Let's hope the same doesn't  apply to the performers.)

Cake over stage.

Ooey Gooey Cake Stage Sim

The general exhibits are a place where the rest of the residents who have only weeks, not months, to spend creating a space that shows off our skills, visions or simply  introduces our products and communities to the rest of the grid.

If you wonder what the rest of SLis up to – communities, charities, vendors and visionaries, reivers and fashionistas are all jumbled up  next to each other. Take the tram for and overview. Set aside a couple of hours to get a taste of SL and you will come back for more.  But hurry - it will all disappear in two weeks.
